Visit Matsue 松江市!

Beginning with prominent writer and journalist Lafcadio Hearn, who is largely responsible for the image many of us hold of both New Orleans and Japan in the present day, Matsue and New Orleans have had a long relationship that became official in 1994.   To date, JSNO has funded 2 exchanges between New Orleans and Matsue, building new relationships on decades of cultural appreciation.

Now, in celebration of our 30-year anniversary, we are looking to send a new round of delegates to represent the City of New Orleans in Matsue in Fall 2024!

The exchange will reflect a lot of what we have done in past exchanges to Matsue. This year's exchange dates are October 7 - October 16, 2024, with a departure from the US to Japan on October 6, 2024. Japan Society of New Orleans will be covering most costs except for personal expenses and a $300 program fee collected upon acceptance to help cover domestic airfare. Participants selected for the 2024 exchange will be housed with a local family from Matsue, for a unique homestay experience.

Applicants selected for interviews by the exchange committee will be notified in early May. Decisions on exchange participants will be released at the beginning of July.
