The Japan US Military Program (JUMP) connects past and present service members, families, and government civilians who have served in Japan.  Through social networks and events, JUMP builds relationships and provides opportunities for service members to engage with each other.  JUMP provides a powerful foundation for sustaining the solid alliance and relationship that exists between the U.S. and Japan.  JUMP is a collaborative effort between SasakawaPeace Foundation USA, the Embassy of Japan in the United States and the National Association of Japan-America Societies.  The program was launched in April 2015.  


Japan US Military Program New Orleans 2020

Join us online  on Thursday, 17 December from 7pm-8:15pm to celebrate the long standing Japan US Military Program (JUMP) with other Service members who have served in Japan.  This is a FREE ONLINE event,  exclusively for those members of the US Army, National Guard, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force & Coast Guard, their dependents and DOD civilians  who have served in Japan at any time in their career.  Spouses and interested civilians are invited to join in. 

This event is funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan through the Sasakawa Peace Foundation USA, the National Association of Japan America Societies and the Japan Society of New Orleans as a thank you to your contribution to the defense of Japan.  

Our Speakers were Honorary Chair & Honorary Consul of Japan Donna Fraiche, Consul General of Japan Kayoko Fukushima, Director of JUMP, Chairman of the Board and President of Sasakawa Peace Foundation USA Dr. Satohiro Akimoto, Major General Hiroyuki Sugai, Japanese Air Self Defense Force, Defense Attache’, Embassy of Japan, Washington DC & Former Commander US Naval Forces Japan Rear Admiral Jamie Kelly, USN (Ret).

Japan US Military Program 2018 

The Japan Society of New Orleans hosted a JUMP event on Thursday, 26 July 2018.  The Honorary Consul to Japan in New Orleans, Donna Fraiche, was the Honorary Chairperson for this event. 

Thisevent was held at the National World War II Museum, Stage Door Canteen and was attended by 97 Service members, Dependents and DOD civilian employees.  All branches of the service were represented.

Our Principal Speaker for 2018 was Lieutenant General Wallace "Chip" Gregson Jr., US Marine Corps (Ret.)  LtGen Gregson served as Commanding General, III Marine Expeditionary Force from 2001-2003 and Commanding General Marine Forces Pacific from 2003-2005.  He is currently Senior Advisor at Avascent Global Advisors, Washington, DC.  He spoke on the role of the U.S.in Japan is deterrence. He then provided a comprehensive description of Japanese efforts to modernize its defense capabilities and expenditures in support of the alliance. He cited purchases of upgraded F-15s, along with new F-35’s and V-22 aircraft, as well as development of amphibious landing craft, all in support of its defense and the alliance. He emphasized the progress in the redeployment of forces from Okinawa to Iwakuni and Guam and the importance of this to the joint defense capability of the alliance.

Representing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan was Consul General Hiroyuki Kobayashi, Consul-General of Japan, Nashville.   This was his first visit to New Orleans since taking up his office in Nashville in April 2018.  CG Kobayashi passed along greetings from his predecessor (CG Kinefuchi), introduced himself and his career to date and then described the Abe Administration’s approach to the US-Japan relationship.
