We have a new date for this event:  Saturday 18 May 2019

The Japan Society of New Orleans has arranged an introduction to Zen thru the New Orleans Zen Temple for members and guests. True Zen consists of sitting quietly in the correct posture. Zen means to put the mind at rest and to concentrate the mind and body. In zazen there is no purpose, no seeking to gain something, no special effort or imagination. It is a true gate to happiness, peace, and freedom. Sign up now for this unique and informative discussion.

Time: Arrive between 8:30 am and 8:45 am. Class will start at 9:00am, end at 12:00pmn.
Costs: $22.00 members; $25.00 guests
Location: 748 Camp Street New Orleans. Parking is available on the street but remember to pay the meter.

Participants should wear dark, loose, comfortable clothing.

We will receive instruction in zazen and the chanting, ending with a meditation session and ceremony. We will also discuss Zen as philosophy, religion and aesthetic, primarily through the sutras in the ceremony such as Kesa Sutra and Heart Sutra.

New Orleans Zen Temple makes this introduction available at a reduced price for Japan Society of New Orleans members.  Sign up before Thursday, 16 May.  Class is limited to 20 participants.
