A new program for 2017!

About Nihongo Renshuu

Nihongo Renshuu, or Japanese practice, is a casual learning experience for people wanting to learn Japanese. It’s easy to grab material to study but not so easy when it comes to practicing what you’ve studied. This program is for all Japanese learning levels, from beginner to expert. The reason for the large gap is how this program is formatted. Nihongo Renshuu will help your Japanese by putting it into use in ways such as talking with others and playing games. The most important part about learning a language is having enough interaction with it. This is not a formal Japanese class, but will have class-like aspects to the meetings such as a teaching segment. This program is meant to help with your Japanese studies.

As this is the first year of Nihongo Renshuu from Japan Society of New Orleans, this first month (January) will be open to the public for free as a test trial for those who are unsure if this program is for them. After January, membership to Japan Society of New Orleans is required to attend as this is a members only program. Nihongo Renshuu will meet every second and fourth Thursday of the month from 7:00-8:00pm in the UNO International Center Student Lounge (see blow for detailed instructions).

Thursday, January 26th, 2017 Meeting

This is the last Nihongo Renshuu meeting of the month. The first meeting emphasized learning a concept, as the second meeting will always be a game to supplement what was taught. The game for this month will be “Guess Who Interview,” where we’ll take the introductions we learned at the first meeting and interview other each other in order to complete the interview that will be supplied at the meeting. This will promote verbal skills while breaking the ice for those who may not know anyone.

Location

The location will be in the Student Lounge (room 133) of the International Center, located on the Lakefront Campus of the University of New Orleans (UNO). For an interactive map, go to http://www.uno.edu/about/campus-maps/lakefront-campus.aspx. Click on “International Center” on the left menu to see the location of the building. For a PDF map of campus, go to http://www.uno.edu/about/documents/lakefront-campus-2014.pdf and look for building #18.  Park in the lot on the west side of the building, and enter the glass door on the west side of the building (near the big air conditioning equipment). Because this event takes place after hours, the main (front) entry will be locked. For personal assistance with finding the location, contact Mary Hicks at 504.232.1513.
