TOKYO STORY

Critically considered his crowning masterpiece, Yasujiro Ozu’s Tokyo Story is a poignant story about the passage of time within a family. Following an elderly couple visiting their cosmopolitan children in post-war Tokyo, this stirring drama presents the subtle generational conflict that recurs throughout Ozu’s work. When the parents realize they’re no longer welcome in the bustling lives of their children, they find comfort with their widowed daughter-in-law. Ozu regulars Chishu Ryu and Setsuko Hara deliver delicate but powerful performances that provide subtle nuances to the family’s conflict. Routinely found on lists of the greatest films of all time, the film has been digitally restorated to better showcase Ozu’s powerful filmmaking. (1953, 136 minutes)

The screening starts at 7:00pm. $7 ADMISSION

Presented in partnership with Shotgun Cinema.
