    Thursday, April 26th, 2018 Meeting

It's game time! We reviewed many particles but now it's time to put our knowledge to the test. We're going to play a card game that is going to help us use the particles we learned at the last meeting to start forming sentences with other words we've learned.

    About Nihongo Renshuu

Nihongo Renshuu, or Japanese practice, is a casual learning experience for people wanting to learn Japanese. It’s easy to grab material to study but not so easy when it comes to practicing what you’ve studied. This program is for all Japanese learning levels, from beginner to expert. The reason for the large gap is how this program is formatted. Nihongo Renshuu will help your Japanese by putting it into use in ways such as talking with others and playing games. The most important part about learning a language is having enough interaction with it. This is not a formal Japanese class, but will have class-like aspects to the meetings such as a teaching segment. This program is meant to help with your Japanese studies.

    Location Details

The location will be in the Student Lounge (room 133) of the International Center, located on the Lakefront Campus of the University of New Orleans (UNO). For an interactive map, go to http://www.uno.edu/about/campus-maps/lakefront-campus.aspx. Click on “International Center” on the left menu to see the location of the building. For a PDF map of campus, go to http://www.uno.edu/about/documents/lakefront-campus-2014.pdf and look for building #18. Park in the lot on the west side of the building, and enter the glass door on the west side of the building (near the big air conditioning equipment). Because this event takes place after hours, the main (front) entry will be locked.

This year GiveNOLA Day is Tuesday, May 1st!  Sponsored by the Greater New Orleans Foundation, GiveNOLA Day is the community’s one-day, online giving event to inspire people to give generously to the nonprofit organizations who make our region a stronger and thriving community for all.

Please consider making a donation to the Japan Society of New Orleans!  Every dollar donated from 12:00am to 11:59pm on May 1st will be increased with additional “lagniappe” dollars provided by the Greater New Orleans Foundation and our generous GiveNOLA Day sponsors.

In addition, there is a Rock Around the Clock Prize of $1000.  Any non profit receiving at least one donation of $10 or more in an hour is eligible for the drawing.  Look for our sign up sheet on JSNO Home Page to ensure we have 24 donors for each hour period.

All money raised will be used to support our ongoing programs and events like Doki Doki Beats, the Japan Cinema Series, Nihongo Bin, & Meet the Author.  We also hope to work on new events during the year and assist with favorite annual events such as Japan Fest.

Use the link below to donate and thank you for you support!

    • 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM
    • Old Metairie Branch Library

Nihongo Bin is a program where we explore different aspects of the Japanese culture and lifestyle.

For the month of May we will be discussing the life of geisha, one of many famous icons of Japan. We'll briefly discuss their history, but will mainly focus on the geisha of today. It takes a lot of hard word and many sacrifices to become a geisha. And a geisha can't do everything on her own. There are many different people help transform her into a proper geisha. Come learn everything you need to know about the life of a geisha in Japan.

This program is free to attend and open to the public, so bring a friend! The presentation will be led by Jennifer Torres, Japan Society of New Orleans board member and blogger for Japan Therapy.
